Daily Prompt: Anticipation

via Daily Prompt: Anticipation

A Fortuneteller told a 80 yrs old man that he is going to die in a month’s time.

In Anticipation of death, sadness and fear groped him, tears rolled down his cheeks and with a heavy heart he said to himself “Countdown begins”

On first day of his countdown, he went to a 5 star hotel and ate his favorite lunch. First time ever without worrying how much it will cost.

Later, he went to the bank and checked how much money was left with him

Next day, he took all 8 grandchildren of his for a picnic, spent quality time with them. He felt like being a kid himself!

After some days, he called for all his children and gifted half of his wealth equally among them. He was happy that the children agreed to meet him first time after he insisted on coming back from the old age home. Only if he knew what made his children happy, he would have never had to go to the old age home. He felt satisfied that he could secure better future for his children before he breathed his last! Remaining half which he kept with himself was his house and some cash in his bank account.

Two days later, he gave all his expensive clothes to the needy. He was happy to be left with his favorite pair of trousers and a shirt. He wanted to wear the same when he would be buried.

After some days, he wrote his final will which stated that, upon his death all the money left in his bank shall be owned by his wife. His house shall be transferred to her too. He was not worried about his wife anymore! She was going to have her own house and children wouldn’t dump her as useless.

On the last day, he arranged a get-together for all his friends. They drank beer like they did when they were young. They went for a movie, checkedout girls, giggled over silly things.

That night he took his wife in his arms. Felt her wrinkled body for one last time. He planted a kiss (last one perhaps) on her cheek and went off to sleep snuggled in a blanket with her.

That night he slept peacefully. There were no regrets.

Next morning when his wife woke up she found a letter by her pillow.

“Bye Love! I will miss you. Be a good girl and don’t be in a rush to come back to me. I can wait for you till eternity! When you feel you are ready to come to me, please be sure to donate this house to the Old Age Home we eloped from last year.”

John lived for 80 years, but was only one month old when he died!

Anticipation of death made him a better soul and helped him live better. He could break through all the shackles of ego, pride and selfishness and live happily. Only then was he able to make others happy!

That’s the power of Anticipation.

WhatsApp Groups

These days WhatsApp is like oxygen! On its onset it was looked upon as a super invention of free messaging and it totally wiped out the concept of SMS.
WhatsApp was clearly more economical and one wouldnt need to limit no of msgs unlike SMS

Another exceptional feature was Group Chats. What an amazing discovery!! You can chat with all your friends at the same time.

All of us have sooooo many groups on WhatsApp, dont we? Below are some which, I am sure, all of us have by default 😁

Friends: This group will have maximum varities like school friends, office friends, dance class friends, best friends, friends for ever, and the list doesnt end.

Education: School group, Graduation College group, Post Graduation College group

Online Portals: With online marketing is captivating most of the sales, it is also generating n number of WhatsApp groups like Tupperware Likers, Oriflame fans and what not where you buy from or sell your products to the members of that group

Family: Now only after uaing WhatsApp do we really know how big our family is 😜. These category will have different groups like maternal family, paternal family, family matters, i love my family etc

Relations: This is like a huge set which will have subsets like Friends, Sisters, Family, Aunties, Cousins, Relatives😝

The list will go on and on but these are the most common ones we all have!

What happens with so many groups? Honestly, I put most of my groups on mute, just scroll msgs without reading (bcz most of them are forwards), and send only emoticons as my replies just to be a level up from a spoilsport who is not active in the group.

Not sure what is the significance of these groups, but yes, at the end of the day, they prove to be the best source for birthday reminders!! (I have also know of groups who send wishes to a person who is not on thw group just because the first person who wished did so mistakenly on this group instead of another 😂😂😂)

How many WhatsApp groups do u have and how do u manage them?

The Truimph Over the Devil’s Eye – Part 6

The story of Sayed and Gayatri’s unconditional love is back! Catch up the reacap here:

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 and Part 5

“Saab ji.. Saab ji.. somebody has sent you flowers” Kamla was calling out Sayed

“Please take those flowers and tip the delivery boy Kamla, I will see later who has sent it” Replied Sayed from his bedroom. He was getting ready for work hurriedly since he was already half an hour behind the schedule.

Kamla looked at the flowers admiringly and thought who would have sent this to Sayed. She flipped through the card attached to the flowers but couldn’t understand nothing since it was written in English. She thought it must be one of Sayed’s clients and kept it aside. She rushed to the kitchen since she was in the middle of making mutton kheema for Sayed. It was Sayed’s favourite meal.

Sayed was feeling lost. He was surprised for the thoughts from the previous day still hovering over him. He had never thought about Nasreen so much before, then why all of a sudden now? He realized that he was actually missing her. He brushed all the thoughts aside and hurried down stairs for breakfast.

“Kamla, get the breakfast please…. And please be quick, I have to rush to work, I am 45 mins late already you see.”

“La rahi hu Sahabji…..” howled Kamla from the kithchen. While waiting for the breakfast, Sayed flipped through newspaper to catch a glimpse of what’s happening in the world. Not wanting to absorb negativity right in the morning, he hurriedly gave most of the pages a miss which reported rape, crime and politics. He happened to stop at the zodiac center which briefed how the day is going to be for each zodiac sign.

He read out for Virgo “You will meet someone who will change your life forever. Love shall knock on your door.”

“…Silly fortune tellers!” he said to himself.

“Saabji, mereko aaj thode paise lagenge. Memsab ki dawaiya lani hai. Aur ghar ka kuch saman bhi lana hai.” Kamla said to Sayed while serving him Kheema Pav and Tea.

“Ye lo Kamla. “ Sayed handed over Rs 5000 to Kamla.

“Shuriya Saabji, Mai apko sham ko sare bill de dungi, aur bache hue paise bhi”

“Kamla…how many times do I have to tell you, I trust you. You can keep rest of the money for household expenses. I don’t need to see the bills.”

Kamla was indeed a righteous woman. Very honest and truthful, who would never think about cheating anyone!

“Shukriya.. shukriya Saabji… Aur ha.. wo phool… aapke liye aye hai” said Kamla pointing at the flowers she had carefully placed on the center table in the drawing room.

Sayed was feeling fresh and enthusiastic after a long time. He was just about to leave for work when he remembered the flowers. He checked the card and a smile crawled slowly on his face. The note read

“Thank You for a wonderful evening. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since yesterday.

Sayed picked up those flowers and carried them with him to his office. This was the thing that got him smiling after ages and so he wanted them in front of his eyes all day long!

“Madam, flowers have been delivered”

“Who collected them?” Nasreen had received a confirmation call from the flower vendor for the delivery he made as per Nasreen’s instructions.

“A woman took them madam”

“BINGO!!! Thank you!” Nasreen was to know that the flowers had reached Sayed’s house as per the plan.

She was ecstatic that she made her first move today! She was a step closer to break the relation between Sayed and Gayatri. FM Radio played a song in the background

‘Tumhe apna banana ka junoon sar pe hi…. Kabse hi….’

Nasreen’s phone beeped to signal a message. She jumped to see who it was and was so thrilled to see it coming from Sayed. She was not expecting Sayed to get talking so openly so fast, but this was a surprise!

The message read “Thank you for the flowers! They are beautiful but not more than you. Some things never change

You still like to flirt with me, don’t you? 😛 “

Nasreen was fuming after reading this message. The rage that built in her was uncontrollable. She hurled her mobile away and banged her fist on the wall repeatedly.

“Shit, shit..shit…. how did Sayed receive flowers? Those flowers and the message on them was for Gayatri, why did he read that? I had carefully timed them later than when he leaves for work. Damit!!!” Nasreen was speaking to herself.

Maniac that she felt she was, rushed to grab her diary to make a note.

“Dear Gayatri,

You missed the flowers today. But soon you will receive them upon your burial. Insha Allah” dated 15th July, 2016

To be continued………….

My 2nd Experience with Uber

Well, after reading my frustration about my first experience with Uber many of my friends said that they had a very good experience with this cab service. So i though of giving Uber a second chance.

Today, we had to travel from Borivali to Thane and i chose Uber over Ola. The app said that the car will arrive in 8 mins. We waited for a while and i checked the app again to see where the cab had reached and it was said 6 mins still which was unlikely because we had already waited for more than 5 mins.

So i called up the driver to check his whereabouts. And can you guess what he told me?? He said he was having tea at home and havent left yet. I was amazed!! Though i was really annoyed i didnt want to starve him so i just requested assertively to hurry up. Another 10 mins passed and the app still showed 6 mins. 👹

I was fuming by now because i had my family with me waiting by the roadside for cab to arrive. I called him up again to check and fortunately he had atleast left! Huh… he was not able to follow the GPS route to arrive at the pickup location so I was helping him with directions. I am not sure whether he chose to act dumb or whether he really was. I was going on telling him landmarks but he was just not responding if he was following the directions. He failed to provide any logical landmarks around him and would only say “madam yaha ek atm.. yaha ek kirana ki dukan hai…blah blah blah…” I mean how on earth am i supposed to understand which atm and which kirana store he is at specially when in cities like Mumbai these things are available at every nook and corner! I had to repeatedly ask him where he is and what does he see around. After a very heated discussion i had to walk half a kilometer to where he stayed put and finally i got into the cab.

All in all, it took 30 mins for our pickup and finally the journey started. Thankfully there were no hindrances after that. His car was in a good condition and so were his driving skills.

I had mellowed down by the time we reached our deatination and thanked him for getting us there. This time, i was charged a reasonable fare, thankfully!!

While i may look like being on a spree for Uber shaming but unfortunately such experiences leave a lasting impression and that too not a good one!

After 2 rides of Uber i think it will never be a first choice for me again!

My First Experience with Uber

The other day i left late from work because of a telepresence. My colleague and I decided to book an Uber cab (paid taxi service) for our journey back home. She quickly booked us on a sharing Uber cab and the cab was expected in 5 mins. That was quick, wasnt it?

While the journey was quite comformtable considering safe driving that the drive was doing what annoyed me the most was what happened after that.

We were 3 in the cab and had dropped off the third guy already and soon my colleague was also going to alight. Since i was the last person to be dropped, she asked if i could pay for both of us. I asked her how i would kow how much the fare is because she had booked this cab and the meter fare would be intimated to her mobile number. Being a super fan of Uber that she is, she said i need not worry and that the driver will tell me how much to pay.

Going by her past experience, i sort of fully trusted Uber services. The driver was well behaved and good to interact with. As soon as the journey ended he said i had to pay 260 Rs. I did so and gladly  entered home and straight away crashed into my bed.. it was 11 pm!

Next morning when i woke up rubbing my eyes.. i see a Whatsapp from this colleague of mine at 11.02 pm saying that the total fare was 140 Rs. I was shocked!! I asked her if it was for each one of us but she said it was for the whole trip she had booked which includes 2 seats.

I was like, wow!! Hats off to the prsence of mind of that driver who picked up from our conversation that i know nothing about Uber and easily fooled me for a double the fare!

My colleague tried calling customer care but in vain since no numbers that their website flashed were valid. The only way to reagister a complaint  through their app, same like how u book the cab!

Weird as it is, you do not receive any acknowledgement or a service request number after you register a complaint. Apparently they set it off against your next booking. We are hoping to recieve a credit on next trip. Let’s see how it turns out to be.

I am almost certain about not using Uber in future, mainly for two reasons 1) Dishonesty 2) Unsafe – Any organisation which does not have a registered office (at least not that i know of), provides fake information on their website (customer care numbers) and does not provide any acknowledgement for your complaints is absolutely unsafe for me!

Have you ever used Uber? How was your experience?
